Some Chicks

Marty had some of the chicks that Lisa wanted. They're the grey ones. With feathers. Marty is the guy at Rural King in charge of the animals they sell.

Lisa went to RK and picked up 6 of them.

They will have feathers eventually.

We used the panels I made up years ago.

The big panel on the long side is the strawberry bed cover.

I turned the compost over to the other side. I raked up the lamb's barn and brought it up.

The big tomato is getting some color.

We added some low ribbons to scare the birds that try to hop in.

Hot Summer Day

It was a little too hot to do much after work today. Lisa did get the front pasture mowed and it looks good. It's been dry for a while so hopefully we'll get some rain soon.

Tequila likes being one of the big dogs.

They all like running around in the pastures.

Fun police.

Poppy always checks the gopher hole under the tree.

Paris Auction

Today was the sheep and goat auction in Paris, Kentucky. It's the same one we go to every year. We had 21 lambs entered. They all sold as prime and choice feeders. The price was good this year.

Lisa had them trained to go in the catch pen so we didn't have to chase them around.

Ready to hit the road.

They weren't happy about it but we got them loaded in good time.

Bobby and Peaches didn't have to go.

Waiting to unload at the stockyard.

This is one of our lots. Thirteen hair lambs average 75 pounds.

Our other lot. Eight hair lambs average 59 pounds.

It was a good turn out.
There were other participants.

Goats

Wool sheep

Goats

This one kept trying to chew on everyone's boots.

Billy kid

Kids

No idea.

When we got back I parked the stock trailer in the back of the shed. I washed out the inside first. They made a mess. I'm going to try to do something about the drainage around the shed. Drainage, the story of my life.

It fit in there pretty good. We're thinking about putting up gates so we can keep it in there permanently.  We need to keep the critters away from it, they tend to be destructive. I still need to do something about those posts. I might make a rack for posts right there where they sit.

Getting Ready

I pulled the stock trailer out to grease the bearings. One of the bearing buddies was gone. I had time to go to Tractor Supply to get a new one. Well, a pair, you can't buy just one.

Earlier I was getting the ground work started fir the next set of slabs in the back.

I had a lot of help.

Brush Cut

I bush hogged the bottom pastures today. They weren't had but still too deep for the finish mowers.

Tractor selfie

I picked up a couple of carts of horse manure for the compost this afternoon. It was hot today or I might have stayed out longer.

Horse poop mushrooms

I don't think I'll put these on the pizza.

Kelly is still here.

She's doing okay. Still shy but getting better.

Cutting Bamboo

Keeping bamboo is a constant battle. It spreads rapidly and we try to keep it under control by mowing down the shoots. It still manages to inch its way out into the rest of the yard. Some of the stalks get top heavy and tip over., that's what I was going after today.

Poppy likes it when I cut bamboo.

This was just one section. There was more.

Every stick is a toy in Poppy's world.

I bundled them up with strings and took them to the burn pile.

We got some bird ribbon for the tomatoes.

Hopefully it will help keep them away.

I finally finished cleaning up the John Deere. I took off the deck, scraped and hosed it real good. Also sprayed down the bagger.

It wasn't too bad. I put those blades on at the beginning of the season.

There's only one little ding but mostly in good shape.

It cleaned up okay.

I took a few glamour shots for the ad.
