Three Weeks Old

Arizona is now three weeks old. She has come a long way. She let Andy and me scratch her today. She seems sure of herself and is quite curious. We had left the garage (hay barn) doors open and when I looked out she was in there poking around. Sundown doesn't like going in there. Her hair is soft, not like horse hair, it feels as fuzzy has it looks. She's dirty from rolling but I don't think she's ready for having the hose turned on her. She's drinking from a bucket now. She's sticking her face in the water anyway, she may be drinking. Since horses don't lap water like a dog it's hard to tell if anything is going in. If Arizona were a giant horse, like some we know, then you could see the vortex created by the massive sucking force. Her dainty little lips just make little ripples.


Lisa was cleaning the carpet in the front room so all the furniture was piled in the family room. Lenny saw this as an opportunity.

Grooming Arizona

Arizona loves it when Lisa brushes her. She's getting big and strong too. She looks so cuddly but really isn't. I haven't touched her yet. Andy got a hand on her but not long. She's getting there.

The garden is coming along nicely too. The corn is coming up on the right and the big bushy greens are Brussels sprouts. We heard the greens are good to eat and you're supposed to prune them off anyway. We'll let you know. The smaller plants on the right are bush beans and behind them are the black-eyed peas. On the left from right to left are onions, broccoli, collards and lettuce. There are cucumbers and tomatoes in there too.

Four Wheeler

Andy brought his four wheeler down with him this time. He's going to leave it here until he gets a place to keep it. It will be put to good use. He dragged the dead branch from Heidi's pasture down to the burn pile.

We also devised a drag harrow to try and smooth out the driveway. It worked pretty well, it just needed to be a little wider.

Return to the Horse Park

Mom and Dad wanted to go to the Kentucky Horse Park today so we all piled in the van and went. It was a lot of fun. The weather was lovely and it wasn't very crowded. We stopped at Golden Corral in Lexington on the way back home. Piper couldn't go in the museum so she waited with the nice man at the desk. He adored her of course. Doesn't everyone?

Sleeping Arizona

The baby was sleeping outside the chain link fence yesterday. She looked very relaxed.

Today it rained really hard. Arizona got all wet. Poor baby.

Remembering

We have gathered together today to remember all of those who have died for our freedom. As bad as things are these days we still have the greatest and strongest country in the world.

Yesterday we all went to Ruth Hunt Candy's in Mt. Sterling. It was a fun trip as usual.

Meeting Arizona

Sundown brought Arizona up to the barn for a visit. They were hanging out up here all day. Lisa went out this morning and took a bucket. It's possible that the bucket was Sundown's motivation but she stayed. Lisa was able to comb Sundown's mane and tail. Sundown let Lisa hold Arizona. Arizona was okay with it as long as she could see her momma. I went out this afternoon and Sundown took treats from me and let me scratch her ears. I think it's going quite well. Where can we get a halter small enough for that tiny little face? All of the pictures I took today can be found here.
