Ok, Now They ARE Cute

You were right, they got a lot cuter. They look like their mommy.

Desktop Upgrade

I was getting a bluescreen of death (BSOD) several times a day. Analysis of the bug check dumps indicated that the motherboard was causing the errors. It was really annoying and since I need the thing for work I had to fix it. An upgrade was in order.

  I had to replace the motherboard so naturally I had to replace the processor and memory.

 

Kathy, you should be proud. I went back to Intel, those other chip makers just didn’t cut it. Intel is like a rock. No one ever got fired installing Intel procs.

 

I didn’t need the drive space but the new motherboard had new drive technology so I had to take full advantage. This is the new SATA 6Gb/s. This is my new system volume.

 

New motherboards need new memory. This is 8GB of DDR3 1600. Fast, very fast.

 

 Shades of blue mobo. Lots of holes and slots. Reminds me of the service tech motto “When in doubt, try another hole”.

 

I had no idea that the i7 doesn’t have pins. It has flat contacts that line up with the socket. Zero insertion force is a lot better to keep from damaging your expensive new processor.

 

The technical term for this is “the spring loaded chip cover thingy”.

Hopefully the stock heat sink will be enough to keep it cool. Now, where do all those wires go?

Rooster

The last time Nelson was over delivering hay he asked if we wanted a rooster to go with our hens. One of the hens acts a little broody so we thought maybe we could raise some meat chickens. We’ll give it a shot. I don’t know what kind of chicken he is. He’s barred like the rocks but his neck is longer. Nelson thought he was a Dominique.

He’s still young. Nelson said he just started crowing. We didn’t hear him crow today but he was getting chased around by the hens all day. If he works out we’ll have to give him a name. Any thoughts?

Okay, they’re a lot cuter now. Five day old rabbits are prettier than five hour old rabbits. 

Broken Record

The hens had their best day ever! All nine of them laid an egg. They have been doing really well this week. The last two days they did eight and today we had the nine. Who could ask for more? Definitely a joyous day in the country. Andy took some home with him. If anyone else wants some we have plenty to share!

Good chickens. 

I had an egg sandwich for lunch.

Rabbit Babies

Rosie had her babies today. She missed the nesting box but Lisa put them in it.

Little ugly hairless things. We put in some posts this weekend for the corner where the two fence lines come together between the two sheep pastures.

Our next fencing project will be the pasture to the left of this fence. We are going to fence off the driveway and make the horses stay in a smaller space and move them around. Eventually we’ll have fences on both sides of the driveway and no horses on it.

Hutch Painter

Lisa painted most of Rosie’s house today. This was the first day we have been over 50 degrees since November. It was actually in the low 60s. All the snow melted and Lisa was in short sleeves. I actually opened the window in my office!

The Lowe’s girl didn’t match the paint very well.

It’s supposed to be the same color as the garage siding. FAIL!

Good enough for Rosie. She was relaxing while Lisa did all the work.

The bottom poo pan holder will be white like the eve drip.

The chickens got to come out in the warm air.

Everyone was back in the barnyard. They spent most of the day out in the pasture taking in the sunshine.

Louie is well. He loves the barn access.

It Snowed

It’s February, it’s Kentucky, precipitation in the white flaky form is not unusual. It was nice big flakes with not much wind. 

Rosie has good shelter from the snow.

Everyone else got out of the snow too.
