Clipping Dolly

It has been hot so we decided to clip Dolly. She was carrying such a heavy coat we were worrying about her. We had a plan. I was to go down on the four wheeler and herd the llama up to the barn. Then we would tie her halter to a post and Lisa would simply trim off the hair. What could possibly go wrong?

 Dolly isn't stupid and she is more agile than the four wheeler. She turned faster and used the trees to dodge away from me.

 Lisa saw my failure and walked down with a lead rope. Everywhere that Lisa goes Abby and Libby are sure to follow.

 Lisa got her on the lead and walked her up.

 Tied to a post, Lisa began by clipping a path across her back. We planned to do a barrel cut first which gets the heavy hair off her midsection. If she freaked out too bad, at least she would be cooler that way and we could let her go.

 She fought the rope and moved around a lot. She pulled loose at one point and came through the fence at me. We got her back in and I got a gate to use as a chute wall.

 Barbara is here visiting. She watched the proceedings from a safe distance. She and Libby hit it off.

 We wedged the gate behind the post and leaned on it.

 It worked at first then she thought she could go through this stall fence too.

 After Dolly's failed leap Lisa held her head and spoke soothingly to her and I manned the clippers.

 That hair is thick, I'm here to tell you.

 We switched sides and I kept clipping.

 Lisa took over after I got the worst. Her technique is better and she was able to clean up my hatchet job.

 It took most of three hour for everything.

 She got a new halter for her troubles.

 Once we got it figured out she was pretty good.

 She looks good now.

 Just had to roll around and get those little hairs off the back of her neck. You know how haircuts are.

 There, all better.
