Feeding Time

This is a little long but I thought you might like to see the animals getting their feed. It is always a special time for them. It is always nice to be greeted so warmly. You can see a little bit of Larry’s food dance when I take the hay in. Jazz is blocking some of it. She always seems to know the worst possible place to stand.

Nice to Meet Ewes

We went over to Maria’s and picked up her ewes today. We took our trailer over but they just wouldn’t get in it. Her trailer was there so we tried it and they walked right in. It is bigger and has a ramp.

DSCF2691 Maria’s chickens are pretty. That’s her trailer on the left.

DSCF2686 We had to take our trailer back to the house and drop me off since I was on a long lunch break going over there. Lisa went to Tractor Supply and got a new receiver for the hitch, it needed 2 5/16” and all we had was 2”. We already had the sheep onboard so Lisa went over and hooked it up and drove it back here. You should be impressed, it was quite a feat she did. That trailer is heavy and the roads are hilly and narrow and she was driving an old truck with a stick shift. We just left it on the driveway so we wouldn’t get stuck in the mud. You may notice in the pictures that the snow is gone. It isn’t actually gone, it just melted and turned the dirt into mud. We’ll take the trailer back to Maria in the morning.

DSCF2711 They moved around the pasture while we were out there. I think they like it.

DSCF2706 Larry wanted to play with Daffodil. Which she might have done if he didn’t out weigh her by 500 Lbs

DSCF2715 We hope Daffodil is okay out there. She’s been living the easy life in the garage for a long time. She seemed lonely so this should be good for her.

Stick Tree with Snow

It snowed a little again last night. It's melting quickly and becoming mud. I got the truck stuck down by the sheep pasture gate. Andy came up to help Heather fix up the bunny shed so he helped me get the truck out. The four-wheeler couldn't do it so we hooked up his truck and pulled it out.

Merry Christmas from the girls.

Slushy Morning

The snow they were forecasting came but it was only about 35 degrees so it was soupy on the ground. Not the crisp crunch stuff that isn’t so bad. When it stays warm none of the mud freezes so it’s kind of a mess. At least it was pretty for a while. We still have to take care of the creatures so I took some pictures.

DSCF2684Hi Mom!

DSCF2663 Daffodil still thinks she’s a dog. The dogs don’t think so.

DSCF2671 Heather helped me with Louie and Larry. We took them some hay and grain.

DSCF2673 The big horses got a bale of hay. We moved the hay rack under the horse port. Jazz was confused.

DSCF2678 Winter wonderland. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

DSCF2679 The girls got to come out in the snow. Mud and long-haired dogs don’t really mix well.

Mud Day

It rained all last night. It sprinkled and misted most of today which kept the mud from drying out. We had to clean off the girls feet every time they came back inside.

Piper and Paige waiting in the mud room for their turn to get their feet cleaned.

We had to move the rabbits into the mower shed after the last wind storm destroyed Heather's bunny tent. It went down in the teens so they would have frozen without shelter.

Bunnies. Heather will have to give the names.

Daffodil got to come outside a lot today. Humans in a clump, how herd-like for her.

It was fun being outside.

Lisa was in the garage and I was outside. We humans don't realize we are supposed to move in a clump.

Heather and Andy were rearranging the bunnies.

There are baby bunnies.

Eventually she had to go back in her pen.

Cold Morning

It was quite cold this morning when we got up. The thermometer said 22 and there was gusty winds. We had a lot of rain the last couple of days, so there should be plenty of liquid water in the creek for Larry and Louie. Louie found the sheep hut finally. It is a little low for him and faces away from the open pasture. He likes to be able to see everything. He sits under the edge of the hut and pokes his head around to see everything.

DSCF2612 Sorry about the big flake in the shot.

DSCF2613 Nothing on the ground. We probably won’t get any accumulation this time.

2009 Sheltie Christmas Party

We went down to Woodford County to attend the Sheltie Christmas party. There was a secret Santa gift exchange and a white elephant gift auction to help support sheltie rescue.

Piper was very interested in the buffet again this year. It looks like our girls were the only ones present, but there were quite a few shelties in attendance.

There was a nice yard out back for the dogs to use.

Piper noticed that the buffet was being opened.

Piper was working the buffet. She had to make sure that any crumbs were quickly picked up.

First Snow of the Season

It was snowing when we got up this morning. Just a light covering but it was pretty.

We have Christmas lights this year. I was planning to go out today and put up some more. It’s a little cold now. Maybe it will warm up later.

The flash shows the snowflakes.

Sheep Dog Sheep

Daffodil loves her new role as pet lamb. She seems to think she has
graduated from livestock status.
