Clark County Lamb Convalescent Center

If a web search brought you here because of the title of this post, I apologize. We set up a private intensive care area for our lambs that were severely injured by a dog attack. I brought the sheep panels up to make a yard for the lambs by the garage. They came out and started eating the weeds right away. We were happy to see Lucinda standing and walking around. Louie is doing well. He already seems to be keeping watch on things. We'll leave the lambs up here for a few more days to let Louie get used to his new surroundings.

Luigi

The dog came back the next night and killed Larry T and seriously injured Lucinda. Clarissa was hurt too and landed in the creek. Lisa had gone down to check on them at around midnight Thursday night. She found Clarissa and managed to get her face out of the water. She called me and I went down with the truck and we loaded the two lambs and brought them up to the garage. We spread out some hay and stacked bales around to pen them up. Lisa stayed out there all night trying to get Clarissa warmed up. Her injuries weren't as bad but she was suffering from hypothermia from being in the creek water. Lisa had the heating pad and towels and she finally warmed up. Lucinda was hurt worse. She has a big gash on her underside and quite a few puncture wounds. On Friday we loaded them into the trailer and Lisa took them to the Vet. He gave them antibiotics and shots for the pain.

We went over to Bullit County this afternoon and picked up our new Guard Llama. His name is Luigi but I want to call him Louie. The people had him guarding there alpaca herd but recently got some large male alpacas. The new guys were aggressive enough to protect the others so they were thinning out the herd. Llamas are well known for their instinct to protect the herd. They have keen eyesight and sharp hook-like claws on their hooves. We hope that the dog comes back and Louie has something to say about it. Like a hard kick in the head.

The finished horse port, complete with horses.

We decided to move the old concrete steps down to the horse port area.

It was still on its sled.

It skidded down the hill quite nicely. The braces came loose somewhere along the way. Probably when I sped up to get momentum up the meadow ridge.

Luigi (Louie) being led by the alpaca lady, Ingrid.

He didn't want to get in that trailer.

After much pushing and pulling he was in.

Alpacas are cousins of llamas.

They have thick fleece coats.

They are not as cuddly as they look.
