Porch Move

We went over to Andy’s to help move his porch. It was attached to the trailer at its other location. Andy and Lisa moved it earlier but it still needed to be placed in its final location. In case you are wondering, it is heavy.

DSCF3837 We tilted it onto the back of the truck to move it across the yard.

Tom and the Ladies

The wild turkey flock showed up at the pond to drink. We haven’t seen this many near our house before. Its been so dry all the usual ponds are drying up. This is the one behind us, it and ours are spring fed and have water in them all the time. They are lower than usual but most of the run-off ponds are dry.

Hen House Roof

The roof is up on the hen house. It came out pretty good. We used the Mansea Metals material like we did on the tractor port. This time it is the same color as the barn roof with white trim. We’ll get the gable edge and ridge cap later. Now we can do the floor in the shade.

DSCF3811 Lisa has been working on the outdoor pen. It has welded wire on the bottom which is embedded in the ground several inches. It will have poultry wire above the welded wire and across the top. We’ll add the small chicken wire at the bottom in case we have chicks.

Sheep Agility

If you read Anne's comment in the last post and thought that sheep couldn't possibly be trained in Agility or obedience, think again.

Lamb Update

The three lambs are doing well. We banded the two boys and all the tails. They all get along with one another. The ewes don’t show a lot of love for each other’s lambs, but no injuries so far. They are all living in the stall together at night and come out to graze during the day.

DSCF3748 Andy and Allen picked up this jersey steer today. He’s a little thin but they said he hasn’t been wormed yet. We’ll get him fixed up.

DSCF3753 The girl resting. Being a lamb is tough work.

DSCF3762 The neighbor steers found Jersey interesting briefly, it is difficult to hold a steer’s attention very long.

A nap can come upon you suddenly at times.

Henhouse Progress

The rafters are up on the henhouse. We’ll try and get the roof up next so we’ll have shade doing the floor.

DSCF3642 It’s pitched to the back with one inch per foot drop. The roof will be the same metal we used on the tractor port and there is going to be an overhang in the front.

DSCF3644 Matthew came up from Tennessee to visit. He helped with the rafters.

DSCF3646 We’ll trim the back of the boards off to about an 18 inch overhang.

DSCF3647 The baby hens came to check out their new yard.
