Last Day

Bess finished up the spring lambing season with a boy and a girl.

 She had hers pretty easy.

Lisa only had to help a little with some hung up feet.

Bess is a good mom. She is loud and pushy but she's good.

The banty hens were picking at Darryl's legs again so they got banished. They'll be going on craigslist for a new home or in the roaster. Leo noticed the small flightless birds. The birds noticed the vicious predator too.

 The wisteria is in bloom.

I filled the third raised planter with compost. The plants should like it.

 We'll have strawberries soon.

 Cherries too.

The clematis has its first blooms.

More New Arrivals

Six more lambs dropped in this week.

44 had a big ram lamb on Thursday. He was so big Lisa had to grab him and pull him out.

He already has to kneel to get drinks.

We thought 44 was done after the first one. We waited around and she didn't have any more contractions. After she passed a big chunky afterbirth we figured she wasn't going to have any more. Lisa went back out a couple of hours later for a routine check and this pretty little girl lamb was there.

 We've been calling her Oreo.

Ally had two ram lambs on Thursday.

These were the first two that looked like dorpers with the black heads.

Molly had hers this afternoon. She had a long labor and finally got the first one out. We're getting some big lambs out of Stevie. They are both ewe lambs.

The second one came about an hour later but it didn't make it, it hadn't fully developed and was stillborn. The third one was right there behind it and was positioned backwards. Lisa saw the hind legs and grabbed hold and pulled it out. She's helping Molly get it dried off and clearing its airway here. It is only a few seconds hold in this shot.

The old timers came up to chew their little cud.

Both sets of triplets are still nursing.

They all seem to be thriving. We left them in the stalls in hopes the ewes will continue to nurse them.

The non-triplets got turned out with their moms. They are grazing and playing. Mostly playing.

Darcy saw me and came up to look for a bucket.

Another Three

Three more lambs were born today. These were out of 46. She had a difficult time, the second one came tail first. Lisa had to go in after it while I held her still. The third one came out curled up with its back out first. It was a good thing Lisa's forearm got 46 all stretched out because the little thing sort of fell out.

Two girls and a boy. One is solid black and two have the white spots.

46 got them all cleaned up and they have all been nursing.

That's a total of 14 lambs so far. We still have four pregnant ewes that haven't delivered yet. Stevie is turning out to be quite prolific.

Libby and her two got to come out of the stall today. They had their shots, tails and ear tags done yesterday. All the lambs love to play on the dung heap when they get released into the barnyard.

Seven on the Seventh

Samantha started the ball rolling with three lambs at 2 am. Connie and Darcy each had two during the day today.

 Connie had two black lambs.

Darcy had a black and a tan.

 Samantha with her three!

 One of Connie's cuties.

Whatever. Being born is so four days ago.

The sheep nursery partially set up. Three pregnant ewes here. We added another corral for Molly and put another in the stall with Connie and Samantha.

The garden is planted. Tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, onions and lettuce. We tried mounds for the tomatoes instead of rows. Andy found big tomato cages at Lowe's so we went over and got some too.

Luna and Sue on the run.

Dos corderos de Libby

Libby had her two lambs today.

 Ivy's babies are doing well.

Libby had hers out in the pasture.

We saw the little white things from the driveway.

We got them into the barn.

 Ivy's boy lamb was napping.

 She has two girls.

First Lambs of 2014

Ivy was the first ewe in with the rams and she was the first one to have lambs. She was good, she came up to the barnyard gate on Saturday morning and waited for Lisa to let her in. She sat around in the barn and delivered her lambs in the afternoon.

Cats are not welcome in the lambing stall.

The white one is the ewe lamb. She is about 15 minutes old here.

The brown one is the ram lamb. Steve fathered these.

Sue was running around the lawn tractor while Lisa was mowing. She had green feet so there was no denying it.

It was a beautiful weekend in Kentucky.

The llamas are doing well. It is nice having llamas that don't try to trample you when you go in the pasture with them.

All the pretty pregnant ewes. Who will be next?
