76 Hooves

We had a busy weekend. The weather was perfect so we were outside most of the time.

We wormed the sheep. There are 21 of them. The two rams got wormed but they didn't get their hooves trimmed. Everyone else got pedicures. Sheep seem to prefer having their feet left alone so they are not particularly cooperative. There was blood.

The other big project for the weekend was installing the feeder panels. There were posts and concrete. There was also barbed wire and old post removal, so there was blood and cussing.

Feeder panels installed. The cattle can reach their heads through to the feed bunks. Notice that the feed bunks are in a "mud" free area. We set some old gates as temporary fencing.

Leo had a busy weekend too.

 As did Paige.

Not a Litter Box

We had a nice couple of days so we got a lot done. Allen and Rachel were down from New York visiting. It was great to see them.

Heather brought Aiden over for some grooming. He needed a haircut.

The creep feeder we ordered came in. It's a gate with adjustable pickets so the lambs can get through and the ewes can't. It keeps the ewes from eating the lamb food. Lambing season will be here soon.

I was taking Nell for a walk again. The new llamas are serious about dogs. They clumped the sheep and sent them into the hollow and came running toward the threat. Dogs generally don't like it when something runs at them, especially something as big as a llama.

They put themselves between the sheep and the threat.

Okay, so Nell isn't an actual threat but she's a canine.

I don't think Nell noticed the llamas too much.

All the llamas have their own pen now. The guy from Liberty delivered them on Thursday.

He brought the cattle feeder panels, too. These go in the fence line and the cattle reach their heads through to the feed bunk which is conveniently and safely placed outside the fence line.

Nell waited while I filled the llama and sheep waters.

The new chicks are out with the big hens. No eggs from them yet.

Can you guess what Lisa's doing?

We have yellow, white, orange and red tulips.

The chicks are adjusting to life on the free range. They get up on the perches after the big hens leave in the morning.

Here's an amazing shot of...dammit Leo!

We got an electrified mesh for the garden. Freshly tilled dirt looks too much like cat litter.

We went over to Andy's yesterday to pick up some wood for the fireplace. We took the four wheeler to haul it out of the woods.

We were able to get the truck right next to where the fallen trees were. There was mud. I forgot to take pictures.

These are the big pieces we didn't split in the woods.

Andy and Allen split a bunch before we got out there.

April Showers

It was hot over the weekend. We got a few things done outside.

We got a new dishwasher. After two trips to Lowe's for parts I finally got it installed.

 A new rack for firewood.

 The red tulips are blooming.

There is a variety of colors but only the red ones have bloomed so far.

Hedy came over to meet Nell on her walk.

We woke up to snow this morning.

It came down pretty good at times.

The forsythia is blooming. It wasn't ready for snow.

A lot of the trees have leaves or buds. They weren't ready for snow.

We were ready for snow. It got nice and warm in the house. I don't think the furnace came on all day.

 Cats are so silly.

Stove In

The furnace guys came to install the wood burning stove today.

They put down drop cloths to protect the floor. The flat box has the hearth board in it.

Lisa made a fort out of the boxes of materials. The guys made me run her off so they could get to work.

I told Jason to smile to my blog followers.

Jason, you're doing it wrong. (Smiling that is, nothing wrong with his stove installing skills.)

If only there was something to lay on the hearth board to protect it from the debris falling from the ceiling. Wait, this piece of cardboard might work.

Jason in the sky with blown insulation.

The chimney. The supports are for the off chance we get any strong wind.

Stove pipe assembly underway. How many flowers can you see on this man's shirt?

They cleaned everything up and gave us an instructional presentation on what to do (and not to do) with our new stove. Now we can't wait for it to get cold again!

 Cats are silly.

I made a box to raise Barbara's recliner. Now she can sit and look out the window and safely get up and down.

Lisa washed Nell's bed. Nell quickly showed her appreciation. Okay, "quickly" might not be the correct adjective for anything Nell does anymore.

Leo followed Nell and me on our walk. He doesn't usually go this far. At least, I didn't think he went this far. He seemed a little nervous when the llamas ran up on him.

He followed us back up. Leo likes Nell.

How many dogs can you see in this picture?
